Spider Cupcakes

My family is having a Halloween party next week and I was thinking about making a cake for it.  But I wanted to practice on a smaller level, so I made some spider and monster cupcakes!  I got my inspiration from a Monster Cake I found on Makoodle.  It's just too cute!  I really like how they both turned out and they're so yummy!

Start with chocolate cupcakes.

Take off the cupcake paper carefully (I ripped my first cupcake in half, so be careful!).  If you have a cupcake holder, awesome!  But if not, you can just set it on a plate.  Use a grass tip to make the "fur."  It was easier for me to move from the bottom of the cupcake to the top.

Cover the entire cupcake.

Next take 6-8 toothpicks and stick them into any version of Cocoa Puffs and stick them into the cupcake.

After all the eyes are in, cut black licorice into pieces and stick into the sides for legs.  I would stick one in each side at the same time so you don't have to touch the cupcake.

Now use white or vanilla icing to make eyes on the Cocoa Puffs and to make fangs.

Then use a small tip to make the eyeballs with more chocolate icing.  And now you have your spider!

And for those who don't like black licorice, you can just omit the legs to make more of a monster.  I also used less eyes for this one.

And here they are!

After I practiced a few, I just randomly decorated the rest.  Can you see the hidden message?

For my hubby!  I love you Alan!  He loved it too.  :-)
