Simple Crib Skirt Tutorial

This week Alan and I learned that we have a chipmunk for a daughter...she's been chewing on her crib!  I didn't even know kids did this!  I should have known when I saw a few scratches along the top of the crib, but I thought they were just dinks from her pacifier or something.  I had no idea they were little teeth marks until she took a chunk out of her crib!  Mommy observation skills...FAIL!

So I was inspired to make a teething guard and I've been wanting to make a crib skirt for almost a year so it was finally time to get matching fabric to do so.  The skirt came out great, but I definitely learned some things while making the teething guard.  I'll share that more later, but for now, here's a tutorial on a crib skirt.

Simple Straight Crib Skirt

What you need:

1.5 yards of white fabric (or some cheap fabric for the middle)
2 yards fabric
matching thread

Here's how:

1. First you'll cut the white fabric to 52 x 28 inches which is the size for a standard crib, but I would measure your crib first just to make sure.  This was the size of our crib.  As you can see, the fabric wasn't quite long enough so I had to add a strip of fabric and sew it on the end to make it the right size.  This part goes under the crib mattress anyway so you won't be able to see it.

2. Now you'll need 2 strips for the sides of the crib.  My daughter's mattress is as low as it can go which is 10 inches off the floor.  So you need two  10.5  x 29 inch pieces of your chosen fabric.  Hem the bottom and sides, but no need to hem it on the top.

3. Then place right sides together of the white and chosen fabric, pin the un-hemmed sides, and sew!

4. Now you'll want to do the same thing for the front and back sides of the crib skirt.  You'll need two 10.5 x 53 inch pieces of your chosen fabric.  Hem the bottom and sides.  Then put like sides of the fabric and white fabric together, pin the un-hemmed sides, and sew!

5. And here's what it should look like finished!

6. I love how it looks on my daughter's crib!  We have a purple and pink theme for her room.  I put extra diapers, wipes, and blankets underneath her crib so it's really nice not to be able to see it anymore.

  1. That is so cute!! I love the "teething" pad you put on too. I need to do that for my little boys crib! Thanks so much for sharing at Thursday's Temptation.

  2. Thank you! I am half way finished and it's looking great! I don't have a crib yet so the measurements were a life saver!

I would love to hear what you think!
