Elmo Cake

This weekend Bammer turned 2!
I can't believe I have a 2 year old!  She has really grown up so much this last year.  And even though I'm seeing how she is entering the terrible twos, I love how well she can communicate now, how she's learning all the time, and how her personality is developing.  Two is a hard age, but also a really fun age.

To celebrate this big day, we had an Elmo themed birthday party just for family on Friday.  We had a bridal shower Saturday and a mission farewell Sunday, so Friday was pretty much the only day available.  Luckily she didn't mind/know it wasn't the real day.  I'll give you more of a recap on the event tomorrow.

Today I wanted to show you the Elmo Cake I made!

It's pretty simple to make.  Here's what I did.

You want to start by drawing Elmo's face on wax paper.  I copied it from Elmo napkins we bought.  Then with some frosting (for the frosting recipe I used go HERE), trace over the face with a small round icing tip.

Then place the wax paper face down on the cake and lightly press it so the frosting transfers from the wax paper to the cake.  Now you have your design!

My cake is two layers, so I frosted the sides of the cake first.  I just smoothed the red frosting around the outside.  Then using a grass tip, use red frosting to make the fur.  I didn't really have a specific way that I did this since if you look at Elmo, his fur is all over the place anyway.  So I just made sure the cake was covered with frosting.

Then using a large round tip, I used white frosting for the eyes and did those first, then orange frosting for the nose, then black for the pupils and mouth.  And that's it!  Elmo is ready for the party!

When I was finished, Bammer said, "Elmo!"  Success!  If my toddler knows what it is, I consider it a job well done.  I made a funfetti cake and who doesn't love funfetti with homemade frosting?!

P.S.  I'm going to be doing cake features on Friday!  Email, Facebook, or comment a link to your awesome cake if you want to be featured!
